Being a tubular form, the pole has an opening in one end for the shaft and its other end sealed. Covered entirely with whorl raised bosses, the Shu has a nonagonal hole containing a section of decomposed wood.
The pole weapon Shu is derived from the stick, with most of the heads made from bronze. These fall into two types, pointed and non-pointed. As early as in the Zhou dynasty, Shu had been viewed as one of the “Five weapons for the chariot”, and was listed as one of the “Five weapons of infantry” in the Spring and Autumn period. It was abandoned after Han dynasty.
