The inscription on the stelerecords the biographical sketch of Yuan An, who was an official ofthe Eastern Han Dynasty. The calligraphy on this tablet of Yuan Anis a variation based on the seal characters of the Qin Dynasty.Influenced by the clerical script of the Han Dynasty, it changedthe roundish style into a somewhat squarish style, which make thecharacters look free and relaxed and squarish in a roundframework.
