2022 Annual Conference and Seminar of the Security Committee of the Chinese Museums Association

The 9th Chinese Museums and Relevant Products and Technologies Exposition (MPT EXPO), jointly sponsored by the Chinese Museums Association, Chinese Association of Natural Science Museums and the People's Government of Zhengzhou, was held at the Zhengzhou International Convention and Exhibition Center. The MPT EXPO was themed “Museums in a New Era: Innovation, Development and Inheritance” and presented the latest achievements in academic research, display and exhibition, protection of cultural relics and applying educational resources to bolster exchanges and cooperation in the industry.

The 2022 (Zhengzhou) Annual Conference and the Academic Seminar “Challenges and countermeasures for the museum security in a new era” of the Security Committee of Chinese Society of Museums, sponsored by the Security Committee of Chinese Society of Museums and organized by Henan Museum, was held at the Zhengzhou International Convention and Exhibition Center on September 2. Nearly 100 museum security representatives from more than 60 museums across the country attended the conference.

The Security Committee is well organized and operates in a standardized manner, standing out among the 34 professional committees of the Chinese Museums Association, according to Liu Shuguang, chairman of the Chinese Museums Association. It excels in international exchanges and training personnel and is highly recognized by the National Cultural Heritage Administration for giving play to its professional advantages in the industry. He stressed that the security of museums is as essential as the bottom line, and we should never slacken in our efforts and vigilance to maintain museum safety. The Chinese Museums Association prioritizes the security of museums and the work of the Security Committee. He hopes all staff members remain enthusiastic and professional in their work and continue to do a good job in keeping the security of museums.

Wan Jie, secretary of the Party committee of Henan Museum and director of the Security Committee of the Chinese Museums Association, said that the security of museums is complicated and volatile, challenged by the Covid-19 epidemic, extreme weather and intelligent management. Against such a background, we should be more aware of potential dangers; safety management should be further standardized and refined; the business ability and overall quality of the security team should be further improved; and the level of technology securityshould be further enhanced. In addition, the Security Committee will continue to operate as a bridge; widely carry out discussions and exchanges of new methods, measures and technologies in the security of museums; and expand the reserve of talents in security technologies. It will strengthen professional theoretical research, develop and improve museum safety theory and strive for the modernization of museum security governance.

At the seminar “Challenges and countermeasures for the security of museums in a new era”, the experts delivered key-note speeches on issues including the digital integration of security management, security problems and their solutions, construction of security management systems, fire control and intelligent detection, and security monitoring. The participants also had good discussions and exchanged views concerning the current security environment. The seminar discussed new experiences, technologies and measures in security management, in an all-round way from different angles, playing a positive role in the building of the museum security management system and the application of technologies and intelligent development in this field. 

The seminar reviewed and approved the accession of 13 units to the Security Committee by vote, summarized important work tasks of the Security Committee in the period 2020-2022, and laid out arrangements for museum safety training in 2023.
