Zheng Xie (1693-1765), Kerou in courtesy name,  Banqiao, Banqiao Jushi in art name, a native of Xinghua in Jiangsu province.

The hanging scroll, ink on paper, features a poem Gold-bronze Cast Celestial Being Departing the Han Court (imcomplete) by Li He, of Tang dynasty, transcribed by the calligrapher. On the lower left part signed two seals of the calligrapher “Zheng Xie”, “Kangxi Xiucai, Yongzheng Juren, Qianlong Jinshi”.

Zheng Xie was extremely talented in painting flower, woods, and rockery, orchid and bamboo in particular; his calligraphic works are special, written in clerical and regular script, the former is more than the latter. The seal script was also known as “Ba Fen” (lit. eight division), or “Liu Fen Ban Shu (lit. six and half script), known as “Banqiao script”. Being one of the important representatives of the "Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou", Zhengxie is famous for his poetry, calligraphy and painting.
