Unearthed from tomb M282 at Jiahu site of Wuyang County, Henan Province in 1987;
Collected by Henan Museum;


This bone flute is made of crane wing bone. It can be seen from the bisection mark left on the bone tube that it has been carefully calculated before drilling. After testing, this bone flute can play a scale of nearly seven tones. It is the earliest wind instrument with the best musical performance found so far in China. It can be rated as a miracle in the history of Chinese music. Therefore, it was selected as one of the "Nine Collection Highlights" in Henan Museum and chosen into national treasure series.
