Of a sturdy and compressed globular form, painted with dense, elaborate, and intricate patterns of sawtooth and mesh in crimson and black, displaying the aesthetics of rhythms.
Discovered as a cultural site at Majiayao of Lintao in Gansu province in 1924, Majiayao culture was recognized as the succession and development of the late Yaosho culture of the Central Plains in Gansu, primarily covering the northeast part of Gansu and Qinghai, and was mostly divided into three types: Majiayao, Banshan, and Machang, with the well-developed colored potteries to be the prominent characters, and the technique of trimming on the slow wheel was adopted at the time, particularly, patterns such as concentric circle, cord, and parallel were painted skillfully on wheel, the colors of the patterns were roughly in two types: black and crimson.

Majiayao culture comprehensively demonstrates the primitive society and mentality and spiritual world of the people of thousands of years ago, and also implied the principles, and where the human life and the nature are going.
