The raised strip on the body of the sword is known as the Jianji(lit. Sword ridge), the guard is “Jiange”. The ridge is 0.6 cm in width, 0.1 cm in thickness. Because of the thin lozenge-shaped guard, hence the name “Wide Ridge and Thin Guard Sword”, it is a burial object from a tomb of a Huang State aristocrat of circa 648 B.C. Historical resources show that Huang State was more militarily powerful than other vassal states in the present day south regions of Henan province, and it is attested by the sharp and exquisite cold weapons discovered.
