In the shape of the flat disc, with a wide central circular aperture, the Xuanji has three protruding saw teeth on the outer edge alternated with three small teeth, in three groups in total, the big and small teeth are similar in shape, evenly spaced.
The name “Xuanji” was firstly recorded in the Book of Documents. The jade Xuanji wares were predominantly dated to the period from the Neolithic Age to the Spring and Autumn Period. In terms of the purpose, there are four theories in academic circles: firstly, serving as an instrument; the second, for astrology; the third, to be the ritual object; the fourth, as the personal accessory. The specific purposes are subjected to further archaeological evidence.
