The Rare Mask Exhibit of Central African Opened in Henan Museum


The Spirits of the Rainforest ----the Rare Mask Exhibit of Central African opened to the public freely in Henan Museum on July. 28, 2017. The exhibition was hosted by Henan Museum.


Over 130 pieces treasures were showed in the museum this time. There were some mystic masks, matching mask clothing and fine music instruments, The exhibition had two parts Mask Style, Mask and Music. The show focused on the diversity of African art and civilization, creativity and rich fancy.


The mask had a great significance in the African people’s lives. The mask gradually evolved into a combination of engraving and painting. It also expressed the worship to the nature and the desire to conquering nature. It is not only a kind of art but also a social and cultural phenomenon.



About parts of treasures had been exhibited in America, France and some other countries. With the development of the time, the mask has usually become to a camouflage of ball, comedy, carnival, drama, flash and other similar programs. It was toad that the exhibition will last to Oct. 8, 2017.
