The word "selfie" was the Oxford English Dictionary's "word of the year" in 2013. Taking a selfie is the most popular activity now, and many people may get addicted to it. However, when there was no camera, no PS software, how did people do a selfie? Maybe the only way was to draw a picture of themselves.

Some art giants were also great fans of self-portraits. Let's have a look at their portraits.

Pablo Picasso (1881-1973), a genuine selfie fan, who painted over 100 self-portraits during his lifetime.

Some art giants were also great fans of self-portraits. Let's have a look at their portraits.

Frida Kahlo (1907-1954), a Mexican female artist.

Among all the art in her body of work, two-thirds are self-portraits. When she was 18 years old, she was injured in a terrible car accident. As a result, her lower body was unable to move freely. She subsequently underwent 35 surgeries due to the accident.

Among her paintings, 55% of them are fragmentary self-portraits that express her great pain. In the one below, we can see that she depicted being pierced by nails all over her body.

She was known for her rich love affairs. She once said, "I experienced two accidents during my life, one was the car accident, one is my romance." However, she shaped herself as a feminist. For example, in the self-portrait below, she is seen with her signature "unibrow", a little beard around her mouth and strong jaw line.
