On the morning of Mar.16, the opening ceremony of the "Red Memory" exhibition, ---the classic collections of painting from the Military Museum of the Chinese People's Revolution (MMCPR) was held in Henan Museum. Some officials from Henan governmental body, Mr. Zhang Wenjun, curator of the Henan Museum, Mr. She Zhihong, vice-curator of MMCPR, some authors of the paintings were invited to attend the opening ceremony.

The 46 oil paintings exhibited cover the 22 years glory history of the PLA from the “August 1st Nanchang Uprising” to the founding of the People’s Republic of China, depicting the arduous struggling course of the Chinese people led by the Chinese Communist Party. All of them are extremely important in the history of the Chinese oil painting. Some of them were chosen to be used in the history textbooks of the middle school and college; some were taken as the stamp patterns, so they are quite well known in China.

Mr. She Zhihong, vice-curator of the MMCPR told the reporter: “All of the exhibits were well chosen, each covers the different period of the history of the Chinese revolutionary, and they depict the important historical events, meetings, and battles before the founding of the People’s Republic of China. After this exhibition in Henan Museum, they will not be exhibited collectively out of MMCPR any more.”.

To help the visitors understand the exhibits, Henan Museum and MMCPR add a caption besides each painting about the author, the background, the creation process, its influence and so on. Mr. Tian Kai, vice-curator of Henan Museum, told our reporter, “The exhibition is a very good patriotic education for the civilian, esp. for the students in the school. It is not only an exhibition of paintings, but also an artistic exhibition, and a thematic exhibition. Each masterpiece is extremely rich in content”.

After the opening ceremony, two painters share their creating process with the visitors, including the college students, the PLA men and etc.

The exhibition opens 9:00—17:00, and will last until May 10, with free admission.
