Rituals Harmonize China-Ritual and Music of Shang and Zhou Dynasties

The Chinese culture of ritual and music boasts a long history, and it is the most pleasant melodies of the ancient times among the fine traditional Chinese cultures. The Central Plains is one of the important cradles of Chinese ritual and music culture. The ritual and music civilization of Shang and Zhou Dynasties started from the Central Plains and radiated in all directions along with the development of Chinese civilization, thus came into being a cultural identity.

On Nov. 3rd, the exhibition “Rituals Harmonize China-Ritual and Music of Shang and Zhou” opened to the public, which was organized by Henan Museum, and sponsored by other 26 museums in China from provinces such as Shanxi, Jiangxi, Shandong, etc. The exhibition comprises of four parts:
 Ⅰ. Establishing a State and Capital  
 Ⅱ. Instruments Embody Ritual
 Ⅲ. Cultivating the World with Ritual
 Ⅳ. Enhancing One’s Morality Daily
 It covers the meticulously selected representative bronzes, jade articles, potteries, and proto-porcelain, specifically, more than 260 pieces(set) artifacts in total.
 Through the exhibition, we hope that the general public could have a better understanding of the progress of emergence, mature, and transformation of the ritual system in the Shang and Zhou times, figure out the origin and development of the ritual and music civilization of China, and have a better understanding of the concept of “harmony in diversity” of Chinese culture, and its intrinsic motivation for sustainable development, as well as its value and impact in modern times.
