The “Roots-Seeking Journey in China” Summer Camp (Henan), organized in a unique camp-style for the first time, opened on August 1 in Zhengzhou City, Henan Province. The camp brought together 155 overseas Chinese youth from 15 countries and regions, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, France, and Switzerland. They were divided into four groups themed around “Culture”, “Chinese clothing”, “Chinese characters”, and “Kung Fu”, and visited Zhengzhou, Luoyang, Hebi, Jiaozuo, and Xuchang for exchanges respectively.

The 2024 “Roots-Seeking Journey in China” Summer Camp (Henan) was hosted by All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, organized by the Henan Provincial Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and Henan Provincial Government Information Office etc., and co-organized by Henan Museum and other organizations. Its participants include 13 overseas groups, such as Sun International Education, Inc (Chicago North Shore Chinese Center), from the United States and the Chinese Volunteer Association in Canada. The opening ceremony was held at the Henan Museum, where attendees enjoyed a performance of “Hua Xia Ancient Music”, a popular IP of the museum. The performance, based on ancient music, revived and staged ancient instruments, clothing, musical pieces, and performance scenes of the central China, winning continuous praise from the overseas Chinese youth.
Yang Haiqiang, Chairman of the Henan Provincial Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, encouraged the youth to gain a deeper and more intuitive understanding of China through immersive experiences, to interact more with Chinese youth, and to promote mutual understanding and friendship between young people from China and abroad.
A student representative from Wulan School in Spain expressed excitement about starting the “Roots-Seeking Journey” in “hometown Henan”, saying, “I will definitely share what I see, hear, and feel during this trip with friends and family members both at home and abroad, and spread Chinese culture and the story of Henan as a little ambassador.”
In recent years, the “Roots-Seeking Journey in China” Summer Camp (Henan) (as well as spring and winter camps) and the “Storytelling on Chinese Affections” Online Camp have attracted nearly 10,000 overseas Chinese youth in 184 overseas groups from 42 countries and regions.
