acceptance site of conservation and restoration project

The Cultural Relics Protection Research Center of Henan Museum successfully completed the conservation and restoration project of ancient rare books on September 16. These ancient rare books were collected by Henan Provincial Institute of Cultural Heritage and Archaeology.  

This project involves 50 copies of 181 ancient rare books, which are precious documents and materials. It uses traditional restoration techniques and modern scientific and technological analysis methods to carry out protective restoration based on the principles of minimum intervention, maximum information retention and reprocessability.  These are implemented in strict accordance with the restoration scheme approved by Henan Provincial Administration of Cultural Heritage. After conservation and restoration, this batch of ancient rare books have reached the use value of exhibition and research, which is of key significance to the future documents and materials study.

By listening to the final report and on-site inspection and investigation, the expert group affirmed the restoration work and put forward three conclusions: 1. The preliminary analysis of cultural relics restoration is the basis, and a more perfect whole chain information should be established; 2. Further innovation should be made in technical processing, digital application and digital rubbing; 3. When new materials and equipments are applied to cultural relics, sufficient preliminary research and data support are required.

Ding Fuli, deputy secretary of the Party committee of Henan Museum, said that the conservation and restoration team will implement them one by one for all the experts’ suggestions.

In recent years, as the "first batch of high-quality service institutions for the conservation and restoration of movable cultural relics" identified by National Cultural Heritage Administration, Henan Museum has taken full advantage of its cultural relics conservation , successfully completed the cultural relics conservation and restoration projects of many cultural and museum institutions such as Henan Provincial Institute of Cultural Heritage and Archaeology, Xinxiang Museum, Puyang Museum and Kaifeng Museum.
