For the first time, the Midi Music Festival, the 10th in its history, moves out of Beijing to Zhenjiang, an ancient city situated by the Yangtze River.

Labeled by famous rocker Wang Di as "a festival with the taste of sweat", the Midi Music Festival is a party for young, hardcore rock bands and fans.

Compared to previous programs, this year's Midi in Zhenjiang is more like a "best of Midi", presenting some of the most popular bands of past festivals, like Twisted Machine, Subs and Miserable Faith.

Twenty Chinese bands and 10 foreign bands will perform, including China's best-known rock musician, Cui Jian. He is now 48, but, according to festival director Zhang Fan, still has a young spirit that suits the event and will give the first performance of new songs from his upcoming album.

Located on the Beijing-Shanghai railway route, Zhenjiang is 29 minutes from Nanjing and 90 minutes from Shanghai by train. Shuttle buses between the Zhenjiang train station and the festival, staged in a square opposite the west gate of Jiangsu University, will be provided during the three days. There will also be a camping area for festival goers.

Zhenjiang, an ancient city dating back 3,000 years, offers many tourist sites, such as the Taoist Mountain of Maoshan and the Jinshan Mountain, where the "Legend of White Snake" originated.
