Henan Museum makes concentrated efforts to fight against the flood disaster

For the last few days, the situation of flood control and disaster-relief is extremely serious after the heavy downpours across the Henan province. In the evening of July 20, Henan Museum issued an emergency notice to close the museum, and promptly organized museum staffs to carry out an overall inspection and make sure the safety of the museum collection. 


Activate emergency plans and spare no pains to ensure the safety of museum collections




Ensuring the safety of the cultural relics in its collection is the priority for Henan Museum. It is always equipped with flood-fighting suppliers including sandbags, water pumps and electric generators, and sandbags were placed in the areas with potential risk to flow back before the rainstorm. When the rain came, Henan Museum urgently announced over various media resources that it would be temporarily closed, and  each department carried out emergency measures according to their duties, ultimately the museum guaranteed its own safety with the joint efforts of all staff.


To be the harbor in the rainstorms and safeguard the visitors



On the afternoon of July 20, over 40 visitors were not able to safely leave the museum, the museum offered them hot water, food as well as rooms to stay overnight. Until the next afternoon, local visitors went home after the water flow receded, and visitors from other cities were transferred to the neighboring hotels safe and sound.

On the afternoon of July 22, Henan Museum donated all their mineral water and chocolate (120 boxes of mineral water and 138 boxes of chocolate) in stock to the Chinese People's Liberation Army who fought against the flood in the front line.


Museum volunteers help the communities to fight against the natural disaster and pass on the power of love

   


In response to the urgent situation, in the morning of July 23, Henan Museum organized over 20 museum volunteers to help the neighboring communities to empty the water in their basements and clean the muds as well as road obstacles deposited in the communities, meanwhile they made efforts to spread safety knowledge among the communities.


Currently, Henan Museum continues to advance flood control and disaster-relief in a well-organized and high-efficiency manner.
