“Historical Concert Hall” - Special Experience Course of Ancient Musical Instruments

On July 19, the special experience course of ancient musical instruments “Historical Concert Hall”organized by the Huaxia Ancient Music Ensemble of Henan Museum opened.
The course is divided into three days:
The first day of the course was “Echo of the Ancient Times—Appreciation and Interactive Experience Course of Jiahu Bone Flute and Prehistorical Percussion Instruments ”，which started with the famous cultural relic “Jiahu Bone Flute” of Henan Museum, and the teacher of the wind music department led children to listen to the “Echoes of the Ancient Times” from the wind music. The instruments showed by the wind music department are: bone flute, bone whistle, Xun, pottery horn, reed (mouth) organ, Bone Panpipes, Chi, common horizontal flute and ceremonial vertical flute.

The second day's course was “Harmonious of Qin and Se — experience of plucked stringed instrument”, which was carefully explained and demonstrated by the teacher of the Pluck group: balloon mandolin, Ruan, Qin, Se and Chinese zither.

Finally, there was “Bells and Drums — the Experience of Ancient bronze and stone percussion”. The teacher of the percussion department explained the history of drums, bronze chime of bells, bronze cymbal, chime stone Qing, and separately chime stone Qing. In this class, the children heard the timbre of various sounds of bronze and stone.

In three days, the performers of Huaxia Ancient Music Ensemble gave an in-depth explanation of the ancient musical instruments, from the unearthed and restored musical instruments to the telling of the historical stories behind them. They used these musical instruments to perform ancient and modern music. The children not only learned the knowledge of ancient music through the course, but also deeply felt the beautiful artistic conception of ancient Chinese music culture in the zero-distance interactive experience.

After each course，children went straight to the exhibition hall with their parents to look for the musical relics explained. Some parents also explored the historical stories mentioned in the course, which stimulated their enthusiasm for learning ancient Chinese culture.
