On April 1, Henan Museum collaborated with Zhengzhou Experimental Kindergarten to organize a themed educational activity, "Zoo in the Museum", for over 100 preschoolers, embarking on a cultural enlightenment journey of "Museums to assist spring sprouts growing."

The program began in the museum’s Educational Experience Hall, where instructors used child-friendly language to guide children in observing animal-themed artifacts, such as pottery figurines of mythical beasts and bronze divine creatures. The children were encouraged to touch replica artifacts, listening to stories behind the objects, and asking questions to spark curiosity. They then were led to the main exhibition halls and offered an contextual explanation on museum’s most precious treasures including Jiahu Bone Flute, Bronze owl-shaped Zun with inscriptions of Fu Hao and Lotus-Crane Square Pot, systematically perceiving the animal motifs in ancient artifacts and appreciating the creativity of ancient craftsmen. And in the practical session, instructors provided ample space for children to imagine, and invited them to create as "little artists" by using materials such as colored clay, scratch painting, and pigments. The children then displayed their works and shared their achievements.

This initiative reflects Henan Museum’s innovative approach to early childhood education. Moving forward, the museum will continue to integrate preschool cognitive development principles with its high-quality courses such as "How Much Do You Know About Archaeology" and "A Collection of Central Plains’ States" , incorporating interactive elements such as simulated archaeological, Hanfu (traditional Han Chinese clothing) experiences, and cultural treasure hunts to build a step-by-step learning model of "perception—experience—creation." This will bridge the gap between young children and history and offer them immersive cultural experiences.
