The two projects of the paper cultural relics protection undertaken by Henan Museum were successfully completed at the same time on May 27, 2021. One was the Investigation on the Health Status of Paper Cultural Relics in Henan Province and it was the key research project of Henan Provincial Administration of Cultural Heritage. The other was the Conservation and Restoration Project of Xinxiang Museum's Calligraphy  and Painting Cultural Relics in Henan Museum. Both projects were inspected and accepted by a panel of experts and leaders. They were Wang Ruiqin, director and Meng Yang, deputy director of the Cultural Relics Science and Technology and External Cooperation and Exchange Department of Henan Provincial Administration of Cultural Heritage, Ding Fuli, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of Henan Museum, Qi Yingping, deputy curator of Zhengzhou Museum, and Gan Lan and Jin Fengzhi, experienced experts of paper cultural relics restoration of Henan Museum.

The project of the "Investigation on the Health Status of Paper Cultural Relics in Henan Province" was implemented in 2019 and completed in early 2021. This project has completed the investigation on the health status of paper cultural relics collected by 138 state-owned cultural and museum institutions in the whole province by combining the self-examination and reporting of various cities and the field investigation of the investigation team. Henan paper cultural relics mainly include ancient books, rubbings, contract documents, modern paper cultural relics and calligraphy and painting. The number of ancient books was the most, followed by rubbings, and the third was contract documents. The paper cultural relics of collection units in Henan Province were generally damaged by paper discoloration, crease, fracture and stain. The research project team believed that the construction and development of the paper cultural relics storehouse in the province was unbalanced, which was very unfavorable to the preservation of paper cultural relics. They were all in urgent need of upgrading and improvement.

After listening to the project report in detail and carefully checking the final report, the expert group fully affirmed the project and pointed out that the implementation of the project has made a comprehensive investigation of the paper cultural relics in Henan Province, with detailed data analysis and field investigation pictures, which comprehensively reflected the current preservation status of paper cultural relics in Henan Province, and will be an important reference for the protection of paper cultural relics in Henan Province in the future.

Director Wang Ruiqin briefly explained the basic situation of the project and pointed out that the implementation of the project would play an important role in the future scientific and technological protection of paper cultural relics in Henan Province.

After carefully listening to the opinions of the expert group, Ding Fuli said, "we will take the relevant opinions and suggestions seriously and live up to the great trust from the leaders of the Provincial Bureau and the expert group. On behalf of Henan Museum, we would like to thank Henan Provincial Administration of Cultural Heritage and the project review expert group for your support and affirmation of this work."

At the same time, the calligraphy and painting relics protection and restoration project entrusted by Xinxiang Museum to Henan Museum was completed on May 27, 2021. The twelve precious calligraphy and painting cultural relics restored in this project were of high level and difficult to repair. Through the intensive repair work for more than half a year, the original appearance of the cultural relics has been restored, the life span of the cultural relics has been prolonged, and this must be conducive to the exhibition, research and long-term preservation of cultural relics. The effect of this restoration was highly praised by the expert group, leaders of the Provincial Bureau and Xinxiang Museum.
