May 18 this year marks the 45th International Museum Day. And the theme of the International Museum Day 2021 is “The Future of Museums: Recover and Reimagine”. We will focus on the rethinking the museum of the future to meet the challenges of the present.

On the morning of May 18, good news came from the Capital Museum in Beijing, the main venue of this year's International Museum Day: Henan Museum was awarded "The Most Innovative Museum in China", and the basic exhibition “A great civilization rises with capitals established in the central plain” got the winning prize at the 18th (2020) National Museum Top Ten Exhibition.

The Most Innovative Museum in China was first established by Chinese Museums Association in 2012. The award was held once a year. And each time there 2-3 museums were chosen. The aim was to promote the museum to play a more active role in the local culture construction, encourage the museum in the related business fields to conduct academic research. Henan Museum has been kept up with the times and stands ahead among the museums. With unprecedented reform and innovation spirit, Henan Museum carried forward the fine traditional Chinese culture, promoted exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations, accelerates the integrated development of culture and tourism, and made unremitting efforts to meet the people's ever-growing needs for a better life. The museum's innovative ideas and measures of high-quality development, fine management and experiential service will be pushed to a new height.

The basic display of Henan Museum “A great civilization rises with capitals established in the central plain” covered more than 5,000 sets of fine cultural relics. It was reopened in September 2020. Within less than a year, it has won wide acclaim from all walks of life and got attention and reports by the Xinhua News Agency, CCTV News Channel, People's Daily Overseas Edition, Guangming Daily and other important media. First, this exhibition had a new positioning exhibition. It analyzed the idea of “A great civilization rises with capitals established in the central plain”, and showed the source, core, continuity, integration and innovation of the central plains culture. Second, the exhibition vision was new. We have absorbed many new archaeological discoveries and academic achievements in recent years. We also told "the story of the Yellow River" well, highlight the link role of "One Belt And One Road" and "Grand Canal" in cultural exchanges, and reveal the international influence of central plains culture. Third, we had some new measures of exhibition. They were focused on the promotion of wisdom.

We used 5G, VR, AR and other new technologies into exhibition and social education, visualizes the content of cultural heritage and situates historical information. Fourth, the exhibition experience was new. It had perfected the supporting audience services and extended educational facilities such as "Huaxia Ancient Music Hall", "Social Education Experience Hall" and "Cultural and Creative Leisure Area" to enhance diversified and experiential service capabilities.
